Buildings become isolated from the ground

Bastion House, Barbican

Isolation of affect: A defence mechanism in which emotion
is detached from an idea and rendered unconscious, leaving
the idea bland and emotionally flat, especially important in
obsessive-compulsive disorder, and most often occurring
after a traumatic experience.
